About

Sun Wei, born in 1976, lives and works in Chengdu and graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. Since 2006, he has been involved in the field of sound art, creating field recordings, soundscape compositions, conceptual compositions, acoustic-electronic improvisations and site-specific sound installations. As a field recording and listener, he usually focuses on the relationship between vibration and time of different sonic media in spatial environments, based on explorations beyond the range of auditory frequency perception and the environment, and tries to blur the boundaries. These works include sonic recordings of natural and unnatural areas, microscopic soundscapes travelling through unfamiliar territories, and listening to the background noises of everyday life. Often implied in his work are two real-life experiences that expand the use of sound materials and recording methods, and stimulate new listening possibilities in everyday environments. As a sound artist, he has been widely invited to participate in various sound projects, and his works have been published and exchanged in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands, and have been presented in: Revolution Per Minute Sound Art China (New York)/2012, Shanghai West Coast Biennale of Architecture and Contemporary Art (Shanghai)/2013, GAAB/Asian Contemporary Art Week (Warsaw) /2017, Internews.
