“Body, the field of sound” is the first experimental art project initiated by Yan Jun and Sun Wei. This project is based on the “field” concept of field recording, as an in-depth trial and practice under the contemporary context of sound art, experimental music, both socially and physically. The artist will feel, touch and listen to the humanities and geography of the city, and use tools, materials, devices. Through these two ways, artist will establish connection with the city and the public. During the project, the artist will launch a series of lectures, open workshops, composing scenes, urban space creation scenes and invite the participation of local citizens under the concept of “Body, field of the sound”. With the touch and connection of different dimensions, the artists and the public will broaden perception of local city soundscape, feel the charm of city sounds and create unique culture of each city.
Chengdu, as an important economic and cultural center in southwest China, has historically been an important hub for connecting the north-South Silk Road and a place of cultural intersection. Nowadays, in the context of contemporary globalization, the urban sound scene in Chengdu is complicated and diverse. The artist will explore the “fields” in contemporary cities through the traces hidden in both geography and humanities. This “field” is no longer the old concept of “field”, but the “field” of sound, body, and perception.
